gilding the teasel

January 29, 2015

after a day of intense wind and flying dirt,

late afternoon and evening brought a hush

and a sense of calm.

i grabbed the nikon and the big zoom lens

and took a walk out to the back of our property.

i had no particular idea in mind,

i just wanted to see what i would find.

the grasses were waving gold

in the slightest remaining breeze,

and the way they caught the light

started me clicking away.

DSC_0413

these are my moments of being,

a time outside the realm of normal measured human time

and into the flow of all that surrounds me.

DSC_0426

the light and the color are so rich i can almost taste them.

DSC_0422

i discovered this lone milkweed pod that has somehow managed

to withstand the ravages of winter,

and i marvel at the wonders of nature that allow this singular beauty

to hold its seeds and delicate filaments

despite gale force winds and sub-zero temperatures.

then a patch of teasel held the light so wonderfully

that i just had to get down on my knees

and try to capture them from every angle.

DSC_0435

i knew the light was fleeting

so i pulled out the iPhone for a few closeups

and got this one just before the sun sank behind a cloud bank

and the light

went

out.

in very “other” news,

we’ve added another tiny little member to our dachshund family.

yes, we suffered foster fail in bringing in this little sprite

who quickly and flawlessly made his way into our hearts and home

and made it unthinkable to part with him.

IMG_2601

so now we have park weenies,

IMG_2649

weenies on ice,

IMG_2699

couch weenies,

IMG_2797

barn weenies,

IMG_2823

and trail weenies.

’cause we’ve gotta keep those doggies movin’!

so there you have it.

i’m living fully and completely into my eccentricity.

and i’m fine with that.

xx

Barn weenies!!! The horses are curious aren’t they? Really really sweet, Janet.
And I melted seeing the couch weenies, just precious as can be.
Teasel. Now I know. They fascinate me too.
    This post is gold, baby!

you are always so kind, Lynn! yes, both horses and dogs were extremely curious, and I’m happy to say that they all behaved quite respectably! I do love teasel, as they dry to perfection, but during that late afternoon sun they positively glowed! ✨

I think that’s the worrisome question on a lot of peoples’ minds!! haha! although i don’t foresee a new collection anytime soon, i do want a mini horse. I just have to find the right time to sneak one in…
      love you, too!! xx

I know, right?! it’s better if I just bring one in and then when everyone sees it they fall in love with it. why do people get in such a flap over what they consider to be ‘practical’ matters?? my philosophy is there’s always room for one more… now, IF we could housebreak it– bahaha!!

thanks, Mary! miss you, too– it would be lovely to spend some time together. remember the days we would pot up African violets and watch the kids run through the sprinkler?! or visit the castle at Vianden and the Roman baths in Trier? we’ve had some very good times! love you! xx

I’ve always loved eccentricity. It’s much kinder than flat-out nuts, right? And who can resist a weenie? Why would anyone want to? Clearly they only exist to make our lives sweeter. Dogs, cats, chickens, horses, light-on-the-dewdrops, and sprouting seeds and budding trees all grab me and slam me into memorable Moments of Being that add up! These moments are the reason for being; the best part of being. The 10,000 joys, right?

indeed, my friend! and my family would point out that if I keep this up I’ll be at 10,000 beings in a moment! moments of joy in each day should not be missed– a great reason to carry a camera. yes, I know you already knew that!! ✨

And you have failed in the best way possible, and those weenies thank you in love and antics. Thanks for saving another life.
