horseplay– yee haw!!

 (i let cormac title this post–  he was positively giddy!)

i know, you’re probably shocked by this,

but we’ve been playing with the horses more

now that the weather is a little warmer

and the light lasts longer into the evening.

if we could just figure out how to unplug the giant wind machine

somewhere to the west of us

i’d happily call it ‘seasonally appropriate’.

i digress.

this post is about horses and playing.

we’re starting up the work routine

and putting everybody through their paces.

the round pen is really a blessing–

not only is it a great place to do groundwork,

but we placed it at the far end of the property

so that the horses are away from their buddies

while they’re working.

actually, the horse being worked does just fine–

it’s the other six and the two donkeys who are worried!

they’re always afraid they’re missing something.

on a fine afternoon we worked si gaoithe and caoinlean in the round pen and then took them for a little walk.

the light was so beautiful on sara and caoin that i snapped a quick photo.

as i am wont to do, i played around with the photo and just loved the crop of caoin by himself looking west.

then, as often happens, like a child avoiding bedtime i got started playing with photo apps on the phone.

that picture of caoinlean made me experiment with double exposures.

it’s so much fun and so experimental to see what will come up on the screen.

most of them are instant deletes, but sometimes i get something that really speaks to me.

they are worth all of the time and effort.

(read:  yet another night of dragging into bed after midnight.)

this is my little buddy cormac mac airt, who loves to lay his head over my shoulder for a hug whenever possible.

how could i not take a photo?

when added to the selfie i took out in the field a week or so ago

i was amazed at how his eye and my sunglass lens ended up overlapping.

the next string of photos i took yesterday when i turned out the horses.

that rose.

i may have to get a new computer just to house her photos.

she’s really starting to shed now, but just LOOK at that mustache!!

it, too, will shed.

i adore her rather forlorn, ragamuffin look.

but, oh!

i gasped a little bit when i saw this photo of her layered with

the doorway to virginia woolf’s bedroom at monk’s house in rodmell

that i took on one of our journeys to sussex.

she’s a beauty!

i’m going to go print this one out on shiny, metallic paper–

13 X 19 …

’cause i love to experiment!
