horseplay– yee haw!!

March 27, 2014

IMG_1263

(i let cormac title this post–  he was positively giddy!)

i know, you’re probably shocked by this,

but we’ve been playing with the horses more

now that the weather is a little warmer

and the light lasts longer into the evening.

if we could just figure out how to unplug the giant wind machine

somewhere to the west of us

i’d happily call it ‘seasonally appropriate’.

i digress.

this post is about horses and playing.

we’re starting up the work routine

and putting everybody through their paces.

the round pen is really a blessing–

not only is it a great place to do groundwork,

but we placed it at the far end of the property

so that the horses are away from their buddies

while they’re working.

actually, the horse being worked does just fine–

it’s the other six and the two donkeys who are worried!

they’re always afraid they’re missing something.

on a fine afternoon we worked si gaoithe and caoinlean in the round pen and then took them for a little walk.

the light was so beautiful on sara and caoin that i snapped a quick photo.

IMG_1248

as i am wont to do, i played around with the photo and just loved the crop of caoin by himself looking west.

IMG_1250

then, as often happens, like a child avoiding bedtime i got started playing with photo apps on the phone.

that picture of caoinlean made me experiment with double exposures.

IMG_1258

it’s so much fun and so experimental to see what will come up on the screen.

IMG_1259

most of them are instant deletes, but sometimes i get something that really speaks to me.

they are worth all of the time and effort.

(read:  yet another night of dragging into bed after midnight.)

IMG_1262

this is my little buddy cormac mac airt, who loves to lay his head over my shoulder for a hug whenever possible.

how could i not take a photo?

IMG_1264

when added to the selfie i took out in the field a week or so ago

i was amazed at how his eye and my sunglass lens ended up overlapping.

the next string of photos i took yesterday when i turned out the horses.

that rose.

i may have to get a new computer just to house her photos.

IMG_1270

she’s really starting to shed now, but just LOOK at that mustache!!

it, too, will shed.

IMG_1266

i adore her rather forlorn, ragamuffin look.

IMG_1260

but, oh!

i gasped a little bit when i saw this photo of her layered with

the doorway to virginia woolf’s bedroom at monk’s house in rodmell

that i took on one of our journeys to sussex.

she’s a beauty!

i’m going to go print this one out on shiny, metallic paper–

13 X 19 …

’cause i love to experiment!

have a shiny day, my friends!

xoxo

You’re feeling spring-y like the horses, I can tell, Janet! I love your double exposures with the roses. And the horses look wonderful. I think of your bunch often when I drive by our neighbor’s five pintos on our way to town. We’re getting spring snows most days here but the forecast shows a few days in the low 50s for highs coming up.

Diana, I am feeling springy! I’m loving the longer days and warmer temps. Monday I head back to Monterey while the rest of the family is on spring break here and can take care of all the animals. I’m looking forward to even more moderate temperatures and a change of scenery from mountains to ocean, and certainly to spending quality time with my family.

i’m really liking the “overlay” double exposures!

spring seems to be arriving early here. usually *we* have the winds, which DO help dry up all the little rivers of mud during break-up….
right now, the days are sunny and warm. so beautiful.

life is good!….and it’s good to drop in to visit you whilst you are horsing around!

It must be spring! Horsehair is flying, mud is drying and horses are wondering when the games will begin. Lovely to see some horses and photoplay. I’m being chased by racks of seedlings that need watering or potting up or some action on my part. I love spring! Next to summer and maybe fall, it’s my favorite time of year. Trees are shedding their flower petals all over town; sometimes it looks like it’s snowing! All kinds of plants and trees are bursting forth once again. Life is good.

speaking of seedlings i have a tray of 25 tomato plants, five each of the varieties you sent! that’s a 100% germination rate for those who thrive on such data. they are getting a little leggy, so i’ll have to scout around for something to support them. more photoplay and horses coming right up! life IS good, eh?

Chuckling over here. You’re creative, silly and feeling spring giddy, aren’t you?
I love the roses on the horse. The close up with tangled mane. The first picture is priceless!
So odd how that eyeball/sunglasses image turned out! And you could never have too many Rose pictures. 😉
Janet, I believe spring has arrived. With the warmer weather, the prairie is drying up the gumbo roads, the birds are out of control and we’ve got sunshine! And more smiles. 😉

silly? me? ha ha– you’d better believe it! i do believe that spring arrived while i was in california– everywhere i look are amazing little things to discover! we’ve got crocus blooming, tulips and daffodils soon to come, and the buds and blooms on the trees make me giddy with delight! don’t tell the horses that i’m tossing carrots into the flowerbed to keep the bunnies from eating the tulips…
