friday archives, part 15

March 22, 2014

back in the olden days of my blogging

i did not write about family and events.

sara and i started this blog as a photo blog,

each month having a different theme

and each of us posting a photo daily.

in late 2010 i we gave that up and i took it on solo.

i posted random ramblings

and still put in lots of photos,

but i just didn’t put PEOPLE  in it.

this trip through the archives is intended

to remedy that,

because there was a very important event in october 2010

that i believe deserves mention:

oldest daughter sara was inducted into the University of Denver

Athletic Hall of Fame.

she was kind of a big deal, so we celebrated!

the event began with a fabulous buffet and open bar.

then followed the formal presentation.

sara had to speak.

DSC02147

sara does not like to speak.

she did fine, however.

DSC02148

it was pretty special that her high school basketball coach (R)

and the principal (L) who hired her to teach at the high school she graduated from

were both in attendance.

DSC02152

we took lots of photos, including this mother/daughters one.

isn’t it interesting that this green-eyed mother has a blue-eyed daughter,

a hazel-eyed daughter, and a brown-eyed daughter?

no wisecracks…

the coach who recruited her to DU was also able to fly in for the festivities.

after the banquet and the ceremony we took a tour of the entire new athletic facility

which was built because of DU’s transition from division 2 to division 1

as sara was exiting the program.

pay attention to these little details and you will see a pattern emerge…

then we all went out to a pub in cherry creek to extend the celebration.

famous people get to sign the walls and ceiling at this place.

DSC02155

apparently they agreed that sara is kind of a big deal.

good times!!

********

fast forward to february, 2014 if you will.

youngest daughter jill is inducted into the University of Northern Colorado

Athletic Hall of Fame.

turns out that jill is kind of a big deal, too!

the day before the induction her school threw a surprise breakfast in her honor.

sara, jenny, and i were invited, too.

it was a surprise, indeed–  so cool!!

it was really fun to see the staff support her the way they did.

it was a great beginning to what turned into a three-day event.

the event began with a fabulous buffet and open bar.

then followed the formal presentation.

jill did not have to speak.

instead the inductees had been interviewed beforehand and the videos were shown during the ceremony.

i’ll admit that i’m somewhat biased, but i think jill’s interview was really fun to watch.

****  GO HERE FOR THE VIDEO  ****  (please.)

we had a tribe of family and friends in attendance.

there was a tour of the entire new athletic facility

which was built because of UNC’s transition from division 2 to division 1

as jill was exiting the program.

and, the plaque honoring the 2014 inductees is already up

right next to the big interactive screen where you can watch the videos!

afterwards we all went out to extend the celebration.

notice any other similarities?

when i edited these photos i found one…

turns out i wore the same outfit to both events.

i like to think it’s a big deal to stay consistent for my big deals!

and i’d like to add one more thing:

as a UNC alum (go, Bears!!) myself,

i’m awfully proud of my little cub.

happy weekend, friends!

thanks for being here!

********

p.s.  hey, jill–  will you come sign my ceiling?

i let famous people do that here.

thanks, diana! they truly are, if i may say so myself. i think that’s fair, given how hard they all work at what they do.
are you getting snow today, too? it looks wintery tonight after three pretty nice days in a row. i guess we’ll have to start over again on “spring”!

so wonderful….first of all, that you raised your daughters to fare so well in life.
and then, that you are one of the most creative and resilient women i know.
i count myself blessed to know you, dear janet….

truly one of the kindest comments ever left here, my friend. I have been thinking of you quite a bit lately and have a lot to share with you– bear with me as I organize my thoughts and get them written down in a letter.
      xoxo
