ha ha!! those are both winners, right?! it’s always fun to look back at the year’s photos and try to decide which ones make it to the calendar. and the calendar is now a must– the family has come to expect it!

hope you had a great birthday!

The unicorn pic is great! The November images are so beautiful it almost looks like a Hollywood backdrop. Gorgeous countryside.

thanks, susan! yes, we’re very fortunate to have found this little wonderland farm we live on. the horses seem to love it, too. and as far as my “unicorn”, when i finally got rose the first thing i did was order the horn for her– it seemed like something she needed!

Oh my gosh! I thought it was photoshopped! It’s even better knowing it’s an actual horn.

What a year you’ve had! I’m loving your blog. Your photos are delightful. I can see that Rose is one of your soulmates. I’m watching as you recover from your wreck. Your x-ray made me wince. I was happy to notice the absence of screws and cross-bracing, but I’m having a hard time picturing how your lower pelvis is going to come together again. I’m certain you’ll put it all back together. In time. I’m relieved that you’re planning to ride again, once the pelvis and ribs can stand it, but please wear two layers of bubble wrap and don’t ride without a NET! Your daughters, husband, grandkids and tribe make me wish I was there with you, too. I could learn to knit! We could photograph each other photograping each other! Shells, rocks, dried weeds, feathers … all here! I’ll have to send you some of my photos that practically mirror what I’ve seen on your blog. I’m blown away all over again with how we’ve grown and changed in parallel even though we’re far apart. I THINK I’ve caught up with you, although I probably missed part of 2012. And I’m not sure I saw ALL of 2013; there are categories and “related”s and comments that would go off in directions that all seemed to come back again. I’ll get the hang of this blog. Nice to see you on your feet. Getting outside and getting air between your thoughts is one of my favorite things, too. I like to get the sun in my eyes and squint … everything goes all halo-y, rainbow-y and surreal. Realtime abstract art of the moment. I’m a little surprised you didn’t make Rose’s unicorn horn. And I love your hair … even if it is a wig. I look like I could be your grandmother. I pretty much gave up on the guitar … you have to sit up … you can’t really lay down with a guitar, I discovered, when you don’t know what you’re doing. Now I’m thinking maybe .. harmonica?

kary mo jelly!!!! first of all, the entire blog still exists and i think it’s easiest to just go to the blog address and scroll backwards. think of it as a time machine… 2012 was a great year when we found the farm, worth going back for. to be honest, i’m always logged in to wordpress and i think i see it differently than readers do. did you get advertisements at the end of blog posts? i’ve always wondered if people actually do see ads, because wordpress tells me in a box that viewers may see ads in these places. cheesy, methinks. but thus far it’s been free, so i can hardly complain. i’m so glad you’re caught up!! perhaps i should say “current”. i will get to a new blog post soonish… since i entered a couple of posts on the carnival of horses blog carnival i felt that in addition to the posts i entered the current one should focus on horses as well. they do have a way of showing up in a fair percentage of posts, though… i also plan to get back into the friday archives, as much for the fun of posting as the necessity of editing the 20,000 images on my hard drive. oh, and as for the pelvis, i think that’s a permanent condition. just a little calcification to keep the two sides from grinding against each other and we’re good to go. the good news is that for the most part it does not hurt!

You’ve got quite a fun filled life, Janet! All those ponies and a unicorn to boot!
Looking back, it’s been interesting to see where you were, what you went through and the mending along the way. And I can’t think of anything more therapeutic than a herd of horses to love keep you smiling!
Speaking of therapeutic, is your horse farm used for therapeutic riding?
Well, you’re living a dream, that’s for sure. I am one huge horse lover.
And I’ve fallen in love with Rose and the gang.

thanks, lynn! no, we aren’t a therapeutic riding center, although one of the other gypsies from the breeder ours came from is a therapy horse. and i must admit– i do feel as if i’m living the dream and am so very grateful for it! come on down and visit rose and the gang– you’re not that far away!

2014 is great! we had the snowiest January on record (records going back 104 years), including a foot in the last week. it is snowing again today and is forecast to snow much of this week. this cuts back on our ability to play with the horses, so i’m reconfiguring my studio where it’s fun to play with bright colors indoors while looking out the window at the white wonderland outside!
