i will not apologize for the cuteness of these animals in snow

January 12, 2013

the weather forecast for today was not good:

falling temperatures, wind, and the possibility of snow.

you could tell at dawn that the sky was leaden,

that no brilliant colors would be forthcoming.

there was a momentary glow when the sun illuminated the cloud cover all around

and made it look like we were set in a great glowing bowl,

but once that subsided the day had a decided drear.

for some reason these are the kind of days

that the dogs want to go in and out,

in and out.

on one of our trips through the entry vestibule

i noticed just in the nick of time

that greenie had come to pay us a visit.

he was crouched low against the house under the window,

which is how i missed him initially.

once he saw that i was watching, though,

he hopped up on the railing by the door to say hello.

IMG_7108

i find it most comfortable to say hello with a pane of heavy glass between us.

he has a reputation…

if you’d like to see him hop down and traipse across the deck in the blustery wind,

you can click here.

anyway, there followed a rather chilly, windy,

not outdoorsy kind of day with intermittent flurries

and partial blah.

and then–  quite suddenly, i must say–

it began to snow!

within minutes the ground was white.

dogs out,

and in…  again.

it was blowing a gale out there,

but there were still pens to clean.

when sara got home we layered up in our very attractive and form-fitting carhartts

and got to work.

it was fun determining which fluffy white lumps needed to be picked up

and which ones were just…  fluffy white lumps.

we always have lots and lots of help out there,

but when visibility is limited by blowing snow

our helpers find it necessary to be VERY close.

this gate is the only reason i was able to photograph a horse body,

as you will notice in the following photographs.

the rest of the time it looked more like this:

anyway, i’ll stop chattering and let you just enjoy the snowy animal pictures now.

(with names.)

“zebra lines” sara raked into her coat which sam chose to ignore…

and,

(drum roll……..)

the overall winner of the cutest snowbaby ever:

cormac mac airt!

(a shameless number of photos follow.  deal with it.)

we finally got things cleaned up as best we could and called it quits.

and then…  the sun came out.

the end.

p.s.  aloha, c. and j.–  nice timing!

i figured you might like this, snow and horses being two of your favorite things.
someday you need to come and frolic with the herd!
