causes for celebration

January 8, 2013

we’ve just celebrated the first holiday season in our new home,

and i must say i have some lovely memories from it.

it was a white christmas,

cold and white.

there were a number of mornings when it was below zero

when we went out to feed the horses.

brandt’s stepmom diane was our first houseguest.

she appreciates the quiet beauty of living away from the city,

and enjoyed meeting all of the critters

as well as taking strolls out in the back 40.

(or ‘4’, as the case may be!)

however, we threw in some big city just for the fun of it.

we spent a lovely day in downtown denver.

our first stop was a wonderful brunch at le central.

so good!

we finished it off with these:

oh, yeah…

then we waddled over to the denver art museum

to see becoming van gogh.

we had seen it on the special teacher’s night that the dam hosted,

but there is just so much to this exhibit that we loved the opportunity to see it again.

what a great day!

we had our family christmas celebration on new year’s eve,

so that was a double celebration.

there was plenty to eat

along with gifts and good times.

one young artist received an art set

and spent the next two hours in deep concentration up in my studio!

one of her aunties was impressed by her work!

meanwhile, downstairs construction crews were hard at work

on lego assembly.

this is not a task for the faint of heart.

nor is it restricted to children, apparently…

there was a decidedly happy glow in the house that night,

for children and adults alike.

after new year’s day we had one more event to celebrate before wrapping up the season…

on friday night family and friends gathered at praha

to celebrate my retirement!

yup–  i wrapped up my career at the stroke of midnight on december 31

and stepped into 2013 eager to pursue all those passions, interests, and ideas

that have been swirling around in my head and heart!

iphone photos in a dim setting are rather grainy, but you get the idea–

there were lots of smiles all around!

the best part was having family and friends to share it with together!

i love my people.

and i’m so grateful that they love me!

so, that was our holiday season,

with a whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on!

2013 is looking very good so far.

so tell me…

what hopes and dreams do you have for this year?

let’s do some wonderful things,

shall we?

I’m so happy for you Jan. Your blog is wonderful. I really enjoy it. It looks like I may be plugging away for a few more years here. I really want to retire and I also don’t. Does that make sense? Love and miss you! Thanks for the blog about Ash.

i know just what you mean about retirement. you’ll know when the time is right. maybe we can come see you again if you’ll be over there for a while.
ash has been on my mind a lot. i feel like she is a part of me, often with me somehow. i don’t want to let go of that.
      love you, too.

Working or retired, you are my inspiration! 🙂 I agree…2013 has a lot to offer and WE better jump on board! Even though I’m still “working”, it certainly doesn’t feel like it! I am able to finally work w/ kids in the highest capacity and it feels sooo good! Thanks for sharing so many beautiful pictures and your daily inspirations! 🙂

it’s always a pleasure to do what we love and know that others benefit by it, no matter what it is that we do!
i’m so grateful that you choose to come here and share this space with me– that is special!
      thanks, tara!
