santa’s little helpers

November 25, 2012

now that the holidays are upon us,

it’s the age old story—

suddenly good-natured elfin helpers are everywhere.

I know…

the mere mention of elves conjures up visions

of little guys dressed in green,

and to be honest…

we’ve actually had one of these drop by.

however, the helpers that are amping up their performance

these days are the fur bearing ones.

there’s nothing like a little teamwork around the farm,

right, guys?

really, dad, we’d all love to help.

is there anything else you’d like a hand with?

of course you can groom me!

i love spa days!

meanwhile, even the indoor pets

are getting in on the act.

look how nicely oliver is posing for this shot:

it would be more convincing, ollie,

if you were allowed on the couch…

note the innocence on this face?

and note the blur?

that’s because mouffette is never still long enough

to actually focus the camera.

camille, on the other hand,

is always a lady that will happily lounge for hours.

that’s good, right?

today was telling.

we had important work to do:

getting a tank heater into the water tub

now that temperatures at night are steadily below freezing.

this is obviously not a one-(wo)man job,

according to the herd.

teamwork is essential…

even if it’s supervisorial.

hey, drilling a hole through the wall to run

the extension cord for the heater is most interesting work,

sure to draw a crowd.

what do you think she’s doing in there??

i don’t know, but it’s sure LOUD!!

sara reaching for high places drew a sister act:

ok, meadbh–  you watch up high and I’ll catch her if she falls.

hey, caoinlean!

you come catch her when we pull the stool out from under her.

kidding.  just kidding

looks like she’s got it!

do you need me to reach the high places for you, sara?

yeah, guys, let’s let si gaoithe help her…

hey, cormac!  are you in time out?

no, the noise scared me and i got hungry.

i will stay with you, sara.

turn around, si gaoithe.

can’t you see she’s putting the heater in?

well, no, i guess you can’t, actually…

wait…  why is meadbh getting all the attention?

and so, with some teamwork and elbow grease,

another job gets taken care of.

it’s so nice when the sun begins to set

and you have the feeling

that you’ve accomplished something important.

it feels especially good when everyone

has had a hand hoof in making it happen.

and as the sun dips behind the rockies,

a whole lot of critters at our place figure that

they’ve earned some santa points today.

every little bit helps.

and it was kind of fun, actually.

laissez les bons temps rouler, right?

i want apples from santa.

i want carrots.

boys…  how about carrots and apples?  huh?

brilliant, si gaoithe.

guys, you have to admit, that’s brilliant…

dear santa,

i want earplugs.

love, sunny.
