once in a blue moon

September 3, 2012

once in a blue moon we buy a farm.

this was the moon.

and this is the farm.

and labor day weekend is, for us, a labor of love.

though we are not yet moving into the house,

we have been working hard to ready the horse pens.

there has been clearing, raking, dirt moving…

and mowing!!

i’m a little ashamed to post this,

because i know better than to drive and take photos at the same time…

let’s just say speed was not an issue.

it is so satisfying to have a turn-out area that is horse-ready!

and when the sun casts blue rays through the clouds

it’s pretty wonderful to have a day’s work accomplished.

it’s not all work and no play, however.

there is a time for gathering at day’s end.

we all come together on the deck.

it’s a bit like musical chairs.

get up to take a picture…

and this is what happens.

repeatedly.

these chickens do tricks.

they jump up to take grapes from your hand.

and oreo?

that little dude is fast!

pardon the blur, but this is actually oreo chasing sara around the yard!

it is hilarious, and he only does it if you initiate the game.

this morning we got an earlier start before the heat reached its full force

and i couldn’t stop pulling out the iPhone and snapping photos of the natural beauty that surrounds us there.

and then i downloaded THIS!!

holy cow, what in the world IS it?!

an insect the size of a small plane?

i never actually saw it, which is probably good.

guess i’d better get used to the country life…

it won’t be hard.

we even figured out how to make the llamas like us,

 though they aren’t staying.

life is pretty neat here,

even though we’re getting pretty dirty!

come see us sometime!
