um… we have donkeys.

July 30, 2012

yes, you heard correctly.

i said, “we. have. donkeys.”

meet otis.

and samson.

it started innocently enough.

all we did was go over to our new property to talk to the people we are buying it from

about what, if anything, they might want to leave behind that we could use.

furniture.  we were going to talk about furniture.

maybe farm implements.

so we drove over to take a peek at our new utopia.

i kid not.

this place is threaded through and through with magic.

it is a home, in the truest sense.

not just for us, but for all of our animals.

the owners are downsizing,

and downsizing more than they had originally thought.

one great sadness was that their new home does not have acreage, and the donkeys, who were supposed to make the move with them,

now can not do so.

these little darlings were in danger of becoming (shudder) homeless.

soooo…

we couldn’t let that happen.

and there you have it.

and guess what.

we’re happy about that.

so, even though we were fully committed and moving forward, we ran this place by one final test:

lucky for us, this new home is grandkid-approved!

dear audrey, whose grandparenting skills put mine to shame,

had the kids picking up apples from the yard and feeding them to the donkeys.

actually, i think that the kids are hoping that audrey and mike come with the place!

they fed lettuce to the ducks with audrey, too.

they deemed our new home “awesome“.

i couldn’t agree more.

and our two little portland, oregon, granddaughters will find it awesome as well.

this home comes with vast blue skies,

purple mountain’s majesty,

and donkeys.

let’s not forget the donkeys!

we’re ready!

vroom!!

and should you ever care to stop by for a cup of tea or a glass of wine,

i would love to share the story of how this love-infused home came into our lives.

it is the stuff dreams are made of.

i do believe that i have found my charleston.

Oh my gosh! Those donkeys are the cherries on top. Looks so beautiful at the new place. I am using the same John Deere here in the Methow — it really purrs. 🙂 xx

i feel such a soul connection with audrey and mike that a part of them WILL come with the place!
and these donkeys are so humanized that they behave just like meadbh and cormac– they walk up to you and just lean in.
      it’s positively endearing!
      xx

Rachelle, thank you so much! The very first time I opened their gate I felt a flood of homecoming that was unmistakeable! I *knew* that this wonderful home had been waiting for us to come along. Audrey and Mike are some of the most gracious people I have ever had the pleasure to know and I hope most earnestly that they will continue to always feel welcome and free to stop in and see Otis and Sam– and us!!
