rocky mountain high solstice

June 21, 2012

what better way to spend the summer solstice than to be outside

and as close to the sun as possible?

this morning we rode the american eagle chairlift at copper mountain,

the only lift that runs during the summer.

originally we figured we’d hike a bit up there and then

hike down the mountain.

after hiking the hallelujah loop, we just weren’t ready to descend.

sooo…  we headed for the summit.

good choice.

the weather was fantastic, the views gorgeous,

and our energy levels high.

come along with us as we ascend to 12,400 feet.

almost there!

beginning the descent.

looking back at where we had been.

it was a lovely day.  the ground was carpeted with tiny, delicate wildflowers.

they made me realize that even under the harshest of conditions,

living things can flourish and bloom.

i’m much better than i used to be at noticing the beautiful little things

that so often go unnoticed and yet, as a flikr friend once remarked,

can make me inordinately happy.

i believe that i am beginning to learn important lessons from these little things as well.

we celebrated a day well spent with a toast to the summer solstice

during happy hour at the grille 5th ave. in frisco.

life is good.

be well!

Love the photos of beauty. I could actually smell the piney, mountainy smell.
