reasons to take the good camera

June 20, 2012

we had a little change of plans today,

deciding to ride the bikes down to frisco

rather than repeat the same trail we took on foot yesterday.

because i have a handy-dandy little pocket to slip the iPhone into,

i figured (rightly) that taking the big camera would be cumbersome.

after a nice little in-house breakfast we hopped on the bikes

and headed DOWN to frisco.

it was a gorgeous day,

so i kept stopping to take photos.

and then i realized why i really should have taken something with a zoom lens–

the bike path was lousy with marmots!

the little guys were sunning themselves on rocks,

the first one with a mouth full of grass.

iPhonography does not do this justice.

oh, well.  on we went.

seven miles DOWN the canyon.

there were some pretty entertaining creations that people had left

for others to enjoy.

we did.

we rode around frisco for a while waiting for a bead shop to open before heading back.

did i mention that we rode seven miles DOWN the canyon?

what this means is that it is SEVEN MILES UP THE CANYON TO RETURN.

so i took lots more, uh, photos on the way back.

like baby christmas trees growing in the SHADE.  phew.

i also needed to stop wherever stars were sprinkled.

and let’s not forget the lousy-with-marmots factor.

breathtaking beauty is also a good excuse reason to take a break.

plus, pooped pedalers need to pop into a pure pond for a pause.

after a good meal and a little tiny nap,

we drove into breckenridge again.

and then came valid reason #2 for dragging the big camera along.

i may have mentioned that foxes (and horses–duh) are my totem animal.

not only do they frequent my neighborhood,

but i seem to cross paths with them on many of my journeys.

on the way back to the car, walking past the old burned out museum,

we spied a fox gingerly tripping through the enclosed yard behind the building.

we went around behind to find it.

do you see the microscopic blur at the corner of the house?

then she crossed the yard again.

do you know what a zoom lens would have done for me here?

something more like this, only clear:

truth be told, this is only about 10% of the original photo size, so i can’t complain.

i took it with a phone, after all.

i sure hope apple figures out a way to pack a 15X zoom lens in there.

i promise i’ll buy it.
