multiple musings

January 9, 2012

i like 2012.

this first week has been a real beauty-bringer.

the first item on my manifesto is to experience life with a sense of wonder.

it’s not hard when you wake up to skies like this:

and begin a quiet evening at home with this:

that turns to this:

spending time outside was a pleasure with balmy daytime temps for this time of year.

we took a new year’s day walk around the ponds while the horses were turned out.

the geese were crazy thick.

we’d walk from one pond to the next and flocks would darken the skies overhead as they moved along, too.

at one point brandt said one of the ponds was “lousy with geese”, and that made me laugh.

it also looked funny to see hundreds of geese looking like they were walking on water,

because the surface looked wet but was still frozen pretty solid.

the nurturing home was all about welcoming light,

as well as spending time with the domestic herd pets who love having us around.

being a maker is off to a great start.

sara and i are taking misty mawn’s online art class, open studio workshop,

and we made a couple of journals, one canvas and one leather,

to hold the volumes of work that we are sure to produce in the coming weeks.

you’ll have to take my word on the reading and writing.

i did both.

being purposeful and present?

this was a splendid week for relationships with each horse.

we bought a new lunging caveson to help us focus on our groundwork,

hoping that it could accommodate the size differences between the bigs and the littles.

with the aid of a hole punch, it does, indeed.

the first day was devoted to sizing the caveson and getting used to it.

oh, my!  we began with the littles, and they LOVED this thing.

they were all about posing for pictures without being held or tied!

the big boys were equally impressed.

it must be like dressing up, like being in costume.

they simply loved the attention.

but the best part of all this is how beautifully they work on the lunge line,

how respectful and well-mannered they are.

all four.

it’s fun for them, and it’s fun for us.

i believe that this is referred to as “win/win”.

i will say that we put forth good work this week.

(although i probably shouldn’t admit that i only worked a half-day,

but it was GOOD, OK?)

and although there are no pictures to prove it,

we did gather.

had deli for new year’s eve at jill’s, which of course spilled over into the fresh, new hours of 2012.

and now, as the sky does this:

i’ll leave you with this little moment of magic from yesterday afternoon

just as we were finishing up with the horses:

moment of magic

we have a turkey coming out of the oven, yams, cranberries, and a loaf of homemade bread

with perhaps a pumpkin pie (yes, this was just confirmed!!) made with pumpkin that we processed and froze ourselves

from a huge would-have-been jack-o-lantern.

i call this a celebration.

p.s.  thought i’d share what was in one of my christmas packages…

life is nothing without a sense of humor!

Yes, I do know how to spell. But not until after I hit submit, apparently. Don’t tell Brandt I did that.
