an ode

September 30, 2011

day breaks with guns blazing

fiery fingers shooting down chill of night

solar energy fuels a new day

as the golden orb begins to trace her distinctly

southern trajectory across the sky

and the days feel suddenly precious

fragile

urgent, even

as the line of symmetry

along water’s edge

tells the story

of coming change.

our shadows falling increasingly northward

we seek the light

and ride into it

into the thick, honeyed light

we ride

where the air is soft upon our skin

the landscape still but vibrant

and colors explode

in a final attempt to capture our attention

as the sun begins her descent behind this swiftly tilting planet

she quietly takes this indian summer with her

and yet,

not quietly at all.

    Hi Janet,

I enjoyed the blog – it’s days like these that remind us of why we chose to live in Colorado! Tireachan and Sunny seem to be enjoying an Autumn ride – how are the little ones (are you starting to see emerging winter coats and mustaches yet?)

“The Littles” are doing beautifully! We’re handling them more– lunging, groundwork, manners– and taking them on walks around the ponds, which they enjoy! Coats are still fairly sleek, but distinctly darker. Tir and Si Goaithe are solidly black and white, and Quin is turning black again as well with only a couple of gray spots and of course his cute face! Tir seems to be getting a mustache which we are loving, and today might I have seen a mustache sprout on Quin as well?!
