be. still. my. heart. part 3

March 5, 2011

soooo…

did you ever have to make up your mind?

to say yes to one, and leave the other behind?

it’s not often easy, it’s not often kind,

did you ever have to make up your mind?

the early part of this week was a time of decision-making,

and few decisions have been weighed as heavily as this one.

which gypsy horse was to be ours?

we tried a rating scale.

we tried all practical considerations.

we looked at timelines, prices, abilities, and performance.

we thought we knew, and then we reconsidered.

we lost a little sleep.

and in the end, the perfect decision was reached.

not by rating, not by being practical.

our final decision had little to do with numbers.

in the end, it was a matter of the heart.

this is who we fell in love with

and who we intend to have in our lives for the next 25+ years.

so on tuesday, we took sunny out to the ponds

and told him that he was going to be a big brother.

you should have seen the look in his eye.

i swear he smiled.

and we told him about this.

then we told him about this.

yes, sunny.

you are going to have two little brothers.

now sunny can’t sleep for the excitement of it all.

meanwhile, back at the farm…

we had some business to transact.

first item of business–  health checks by the veterinarian.

we started with little caoinlain (quin).

quin was more than happy to step right into his halter.

charlie buckled it on and we were ready to go.

half-sister si gaoithe and mama rose knew he was in good hands and didn’t bat an eyelash.

dr. garrison checked everything from the top of his head

to the tips of his toes.

she listened to his heart.

aside from needing a quick little hug, quin seemed unfazed by the whole process.

he passed with flying colors

and breathed a sigh of relief.

then it was tireachan’s turn.

again, everything from the top of his head

to the tips of his toes was thoroughly checked.

tir stood like a champ

although a little hug was certainly welcome.

then came the outdoor assessment of his movement.

tir thought this part was so easy he could do it with his eyes closed!

tireachan also passed with flying colors.

in fact, we even x-rayed his growth plates to see if they were closed.

Yay–  they are, so he is ready to go to the trainer to be started under saddle!

and as the sun set tonight along the front range

we all looked forward to tomorrow,

when…
